Born on Jan. 19th of 1946 Locust Ridge Tenn into a poor family that would eventually consist of 12 children Dolly Parton learned early to overcome the challenges of her life through her vivid and expansive imagination. Before learning how to read and write, Dolly Parton was creating her own songs. In the year she turned eight, she bought the first electric guitar she owned and started singing at the Knoxville Tenn Radio Station. The same year, Gold Band Records was a tiny independent record label. In high school she was able to establish herself within the community, but her goals were bigger.
